Military arrests 50 vandals, recovers 100 canoes, 3,000 jerrycans in Lagos
The Military has arrested 50 persons suspected of vandalising pipelines at Majidun area of Ikorodu in Lagos.
About 100 canoes and ferries used by the vandals were reportedly recovered as at 7.30p.m. on Saturday.
Vanguard gathered that over 1,000 jerricans filled with siphoned petroleum product and over 2,000 empty ones were also recovered.
The raid, which was jointly carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy and Army, reportedly started last Saturday.
Military sources disclosed that the action followed intelligence report on activities of pipeline vandals in the area. It was gathered that the operatives stormed the creeks while the vandals were operating.
Sources hinted that the vandals attempted to shoot, but on realising that they were military men, jumped into the river and swam away.
The presence of the military men on water and land sent fear down the spines of residents of the area.
A resident told Vanguard on phone: “The raid even caused a hitch in the flow of traffic as the military men positioned themselves in strategic points around the area.
“This paid off as some vandals, who managed to escape from the creeks, were arrested while attempting to board motorbikes. We just hope this will continue, so as to bring sanity to this area.”

Breaking! Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau Resurfaces, Says, “Am Alive!”
This is rather too unbelievable! For the second or third time, the strong man of the deadly Boko Haram insurgents, Abubakar Shekau must have once again fooled the whole Nigerian nation and of course the Jonathan-led federal government if the latest report about his being alive is actually true.
Abubakar Shekau, we gathered has released a 36 minutes recorded video of himself in action at the dreaded camp and the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, we gathered is laying claims to be in possession of the footages.
According to snippets from the video, Shekau is said to have made a mockery of the Nigerian Army saying “here I am, am alive, I’ll only die the day Allah takes my breath, we’re running our…Islamic caliphate and administering Sharia punishments”, he was quoted to have said.
It would be recalled however that the Nigerian Army had days back claimed that a high-ranking insurgent posing as Shekau had been killed in a serious gun dwell in Konduga, a Borno community and a pictorial evidence showing the body of the man being mercilessly maimed was shown to the world as a proof thereby leaving the Nigerian nation to jubilation and sort of relief to the beginning of the end of insurgents..
The question now is, ‘WHO’S FOOLING WHO”. Time will tell.

Pistorius Brother Was Suspected Of Wiping Phone Data After Killing
Police suspected the brother of Oscar Pistorius of wiping data from the Olympian’s phone in the days after he killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, a South African radio station claimed on Thursday.
Investigators believed Carl Pistorius synchronised his computer with his brother’s iPhone, wiping out the entire call history and all WhatsApp messages, according to an investigation by Eyewitness News (EWN).
Police “considered charging him with defeating the ends of justice but ultimately declined to proceed with a case against him,” EWN said.
It also revealed that Oscar Pistorius spoke to an ex-girlfriend, Jenna Edkins, just minutes before he came home to Steenkamp on the fateful night of February 14, 2013.
Edkins, who dated the runner on and off for several years, was stored in his phone under the pseudonym “Babyshoes”.
The call was never raised during the trial, but EWN reported that both the prosecution and Pistorius’s lawyers knew about it, and that Edkins was prepared to testify in the runner’s defence if the phone call was used.
Pistorius is due back in court on October 13 to be sentenced after the judge ruled last month he was guilty of culpable homicide, but not murder.
The new revelations are included in a book on the trial by two EWN reporters released on Thursday.
It says police sought assistance from Apple in the United States to gather information on Carl Pistorius’s actions.
In a statement on Wednesday night, the Pistorius family reacted in advance to the EWN article.
“We are not sure of the allegations which are to be made or the source of such allegations, but we are not aware of any deletions having been affected by Oscar or effected on his instructions that could be relevant to this trial or could have impacted on this trial,” the statement said.
Pistorius, a 29-year-old double amputee, admitted to firing through a locked toilet door and killing is model girlfriend on Valentine’s Day 2013.
He said he thought he was shooting at an intruder and that Steenkamp was safely in bed.
